Development Engineer


Location: Soest, Germany


Essential Functions:


  • Liaison with Product Managers/Project Managers to define requirements and develop implementation concepts

  • Development of innovative electronic applications for emergency lighting, especially battery-powered DC-AC converter for safety power supplies with up to 5kVA in accordance to functional specification documents, norms and European Directives

  • Circuit and PCB design with CADSTAR

  • Setup of product documentation incl. BOM, assembly documentation, test-specification

  • Test of prototypes and final products

  • High-level support for customer service and sales team

  • Interface with Operations teams to ensure the smooth introduction of product into manufacture

  • Carry out Value Analysis and Value Engineering exercises to identify opportunities to reduce product cost

  • Support the Operations teams in solving production issues

  • Preparation of patent applications

  • Execution of measurements according the CE-compliance (EMC, LVD)

  • Support of standardization work in all EL related topics

  • Manages all risks and requirements of the projects through effective planning, controlling, and measuring all elements to ensure the requirements and goals are successfully achieved

  • Provides periodic program/project updates (Program Status Report – Green/Yellow/Red) of current situation relating to contractual milestones and problem/high risk areas (e.g., technical, cost, and schedule)

  • Provides updates to the division as well as regional and sector levels



  • Master or Bachelor of electrical engineering

  • Comprehensive experience in development projects

  • Understanding of specific markets and products

  • Knowledge of Emergency Lighting or UPS systems, especially Inverter Technology

  • Strong technical aptitude

  • EMC experience

  • Self-motivated, accepts ownership for results, takes initiative

  • Project management and excellent communication skills with ability to work in a matrix environment

  • Ability to communicate, present and negotiate at all levels in and outside the organization; professional presence

  • Experience in PCB-design with CAD solutions like CADSTAR or similar

  • Experience in Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA)

  • Comfortable working with Office suite applications, especially PowerPoint, Excel, MS-Project

  • Interpersonal and influencing skills, ability to coordinate / manage people w/o reporting relationships

  • Fluency in English is a must. German Language would be an advantage.
