Job Description
Eaton’s Ephesus business located in Syracuse, NY has an opening for a Senior Sustaining Electrical Engineer.
 
Position Overview:
 
The selected candidate will support existing product designs including but not limited to analog control circuits, power supplies, filtering, and digital control circuits. Responsibilities also include participation in all aspects of activities related to RF Engineering from specification, design, fabrication, acquisition, integration and deployment. The Senior Sustaining Electrical engineer will also create bills of material, design custom lighting fixtures and accessories, maintain engineering drawing packages, and participate in VAVE projects on existing product lines.

Essential Functions:
  • Responsible for all electrical updates to existing designs- update and maintain PCB layouts, schematics, firmware updates and wiring diagrams as changes are required. Includes all levels of design from system to board level.
  • Drive improvements to existing designs for design-for-manufacturing (DFM), design-for-test (DFT), and cost reductions (VAVE projects). Incorporating comments from customers, production and engineering.
  • Identify improvement projects to implement. Lead these projects from start to finish on time and within budget.
  • Develop good working relationships with vendors and the purchasing group to obtain quotes, prototypes and rework of parts.
  • Complete design update documentation; maintain document control processes, change notice (ECN) releases and creating BOMs & part number set up.
  • Create and maintain bill of materials (BOMs) for standard product and product releases. Set up new part numbers by working closely with purchasing, vendors and accounting.
  • Evaluate and improve manufacturing processes on existing product lines to reduce cost.
  • Evaluate existing product lines for inefficiencies and Design for Manufacturability improvements. Drive to continually reduce cost across all product lines.
  • Develop good working relationships with vendors and the purchasing group to obtain quotes, prototypes and rework of parts.

  • Support the Customer Service department with answers to technical questions with regard to products, installations and field service issues


Basic Qualifications (Including Educational Requirements)
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 2 year engineering experience (related academic experience will be considered)
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
  • This position does not include relocation benefits. Only candidates currently residing within a 50 mile radius of Syracuse will be considered.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical/electronic product design.
  • Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Knowledge of schematic capture/PCB routing software, preferably Altium Designer or OrCAD.
  • Knowledge of power electronic concepts, switch mode power supply theory of operation, resonant systems, and control systems lighting products or lighting product controls related industry experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of SAP/PLM.
  • Knowledge of C Language programming for embedded solution.
  • Knowledge of electric arc discharge lamp concepts a plus.
  • Knowledge of UL/CSA/NOM standards and CADAM is a plus.
