Job description:


The Application Engineer – Advanced Control Products will provide customer facing technical application support for Eaton’s distributors, integrators, OEMs, and internal personnel for the purpose of integrating Eaton Advanced Control Products and components into applications.

Will help customers and internal Eaton teams specify hardware requirements, assist in commissioning vehicles and machines, and assist in building and debugging their software applications. Collaborate with Sales and Application & Commercial Engineering (ACE) to ensure that customers are provided first class technical support related to Advanced Control Products and control Software.

Besides the Hydraulic Team at the Eaton European Innovation Center, Prague, CZ, this individual will be also a team member of the Hydraulic Development Group in Eden Prairie, MN, USA.




  • Provides an advanced level of technical support for Eaton Hydraulic Advanced Control Products. This includes Pro-FX hardware and software, Axis-Pro, CMA, telematics, and Omnex Wireless.

  • Assists internal and external customers with software application development, which may include: identifying needs, developing requirements, building the solution, testing, and documenting.

  • Interprets customer functional needs and converts these to technical requirements including drawings, technical specifications and written requirements for complete systems.

  • Develops software in alignment with customer requirements and division/product level processes, guidelines and tools.

  • Commissions/starts-up/troubleshoots our solutions at customer site to validate our products/systems/tuning on customer equipment.

  • Delivers formal and informal training that continuously evolves in complexity as customers and internal Eaton staff becomes more experienced and the product base grows.

  • Defines/specifies system control algorithms in group-standard software to meet customer requirements for system control.

  • Coordinates with internal departments (peers, sales, product management, product engineering, global marketing) and customers for application projects and new product launches.Contributes and plays an active role in a team environment.

  • Prepare and conduct trade show presentations and support and develop control system demos.

  • Conduct verification and proof-of-concept testing on solutions that help to secure new opportunities.

  • Engage with product teams and vendors to ensure that new products meet the needs of customers.




  • Engineering Degree plus technical experience directly related to hydraulics and/or controls.

  • A working knowledge of control systems software such as PLC’s or IEC61131-3 languages.

  • Ability to travel to customer sites 10-25%

  • PLC Programming Experience

  • Excellent customer interaction

  • Industrial/Mobile controls experience


Preferred skills:


  • IEC 61131-3

  • Codesys 3.x

  • CANopen and J1939 CANBus Communications

  • Programming Language Experience

  • Structured Text, Continuous Function Chart, Function Block Diagram, Ladder Logic, Instruction List, Sequential Function Chart

  • Working knowledge of electrohydraulic systems
